A Serene Escape to Azerbaijan Beach, Qatar

Last November, some friends and I decided to take a break from the city and visit Azerbaijan Beach, a spot I’d heard so much about. Located roughly 120 kilometers north of Doha, it’s a popular getaway for locals and expats alike. We packed up our camping gear, some food for a barbecue, and plenty of excitement for what the day would bring.

The drive started out smooth, with Doha’s bustling streets giving way to the quieter highways toward Al Khor. As we got closer to the beach, the terrain shifted. The paved roads ended, and we found ourselves navigating sandy, uneven paths. It was a bit nerve-wracking at times but also part of the adventure.

When we finally arrived, Azerbaijan Beach was just as beautiful as everyone had said. The sand was soft and golden, and the water sparkled under the November sun. Since it’s a favorite spot for weekend campers, finding the perfect place to set up was tricky but exciting. At one point, our car tires got stuck in the loose sand, leaving us momentarily stranded. Luckily, a friendly Qatari family nearby came to help. With a bit of teamwork and laughter, they got us back on track.

We eventually found a great spot right by the water and began setting up camp. The beach felt untouched and peaceful, with its silky-smooth sand and cool, clear water. As the sun began to set, the sky turned into a stunning mix of oranges and purples, casting a soft glow over everything. We paused just to take it all in – it was one of those moments where time seemed to stand still.

Dinner was a highlight of the evening. We fired up the grill and started cooking a barbecue feast, the smoky aroma mixing perfectly with the sea breeze. Just as we were settling in, a group of Chinese campers arrived nearby. They came well-prepared with lights and spear-fishing gear, and before long, they were catching fresh fish right out of the water. Watching them was fascinating, and they even shared some of their catch with us. Freshly grilled fish has never tasted so good!

The night grew cooler, so we brewed tea over the coal fire, its warmth and earthy aroma spreading through the air. Someone set up a hookah, and soon we were all chatting, laughing, and sharing stories under the stars. Despite coming from different parts of the world, we felt connected in that moment.

That trip to Azerbaijan Beach was more than just a day at the beach – it was an experience of simplicity and connection. From the kind strangers who helped us to the shared meals and stunning scenery, every part of it felt special. If you’re looking for an escape near Doha, this hidden gem is well worth the trip. You might even make some new friends along the way.
